Chest injuries mainly involve the rib cage, so a basic understanding of the human rib cage is necessary to treat one of these injuries successfully. There are 24 ribs, 12 on each side, and these ribs all connect to each other in the middle of the chest at the sternum. In the abdomen, you should know the general position of the stomach, liver, and spleen. The spleen is directly under you heart and to the left of the stomach, which is under the spleen and closer to the middle of your chest. The liver is opposite the spleen and above your stomach. The main areas of concern in pelvic injuries are the bladder, reproductive organs, the pelvic bone, and part of the large intestine.
