Chest Injuries:
closed chest injury - the victims skin is not broken open chest injury - the skin has been broken and the chest wall is penetrated by an object such as a knife or bullet flail chest - several ribs in the same area are broken in more than one place embedded objects - an open chest injury occurs when an object is stuck in the chest sucking chest wound - results when a chest wound allows air to pass into and out of the chest cavity with each breath. Abdominal Injuries: closed abdominal injury - occurs as a result of a direct blow from a blunt object open abdominal injury - includes penetrating wounds, embedded objects. and protruding organs protruding organ injury - refers to a severe injury to the abdomen in which the internal organs escape or protrude from the wound Pelvic Injuries: pelvic fracture - a fracture of the pelvis that can be life threatening due to damage to surrounding blood vessels and nerves |
